About Galápagos Islands
Darwin's living laboratory where fearless wildlife approaches families, offering once-in-a-lifetime encounters with giant tortoises and swimming iguanas.
The Galápagos Islands were formed by volcanic eruptions 5-10 million years ago, rising from the Pacific Ocean 600 miles from Ecuador. Because of their isolation, species evolved uniquely here - animals have no fear of humans since there were no land predators! Charles Darwin visited in 1835, and his observations of different finch beaks on each island led to his groundbreaking theory of evolution. The islands became a national park in 1959 and a UNESCO World Heritage site, with strict conservation rules protecting this irreplaceable ecosystem. Families witness nature like nowhere else on Earth - giant tortoises over 100 years old, marine iguanas that swim in the ocean, blue-footed boobies doing their funny mating dance, and fearless sea lions playing on beaches. Snorkeling with penguins on the equator seems impossible, but it happens here! The Galápagos teaches children about evolution, conservation, and how precious unique ecosystems are!

Traveler Stories (1)
Galapagos with children - expensive, unforgettable, worth saving for
We spent five nights on Santa Cruz and one on Isabela. Sea lions sleeping on the benches of the pier was the moment the kids realised this place was different. Snorkelling with turtles next to our eight year old is the memory we will keep forever.
💡 Travel Tips
- •Flights from mainland Ecuador are the biggest cost - book months ahead
- •Ginger tablets worked better than the patches for the boat crossings
- •You cannot touch the animals, and the kids respected the rules instantly
